How to Gain Full Control of Your SSL Certificate Inventory

Today, to keep an Internet connection secure or protect any other type of confidential information within your network, it is essential to have SSL certificates.

Most organizations don't have a clear idea of how to manage their certificates. Failure to renew on time causes poor data control and this can damage the interests of companies. According to DigiCert specialists, without visibility or control it is impossible to guarantee that there are no gaps in network encryption. In this case, the network could be at risk of non-compliance or fail a digital security audit. An example of increased certificates and digital signatures is Latin America, a region that has experienced significant growth in recent years. Now, 80% of users have conducted transactions on public administration websites and digital signature services have grown by up to 200%, according to the US technology company focused on digital security. As for remote work, online procedures have captured the digitalization process and therefore the need for digital identity protection. This change in business behavior only reinforces the need for greater control and automation of digital certificates. Avesta Hojjati, head of research and development at DigiCert, explains that: "For companies, it is important to gain control over their digital certificate inventory in the short term." The use of digital certificates will continue to increase and in this way its utility will be maintained in accordance with the most advanced industry standards worldwide. Currently, only 80% of companies estimate SSL certificate usage; however, this figure could increase in the next five years with harmful consequences. 85% of CIOs believe that the growing complexity of IT systems can cause disruptions that are increasingly damaging to a company. "The more digital certificate usage grows, the more necessary control and visibility become to protect a work network," said Hojjati. To have greater control over inventory, DigiCert experts explain that it is essential to update the current protocols of a signature server. With this, cybercriminals will not be able to exploit any type of vulnerability to steal confidential information or employee credentials. Having obsolete protocols can generate greater vulnerability to digital attacks and, if not updated, a company could fall behind in the industry. Beyond this, having a tool that allows the company to have a complete view of the organization's network in real time is key to executing any task with precision. To have deep scanning, other types of technologies can be implemented, for example, sensors to scan the network and find all internal and public SSL certificates. According to Hojjati, once you have gained visibility into your certificate inventory, you should be able to resolve any issue quickly and easily. Furthermore, having automation tools to reduce risks during manual installation and renewal processes can save time and money.
