Explorando el Futuro Digital: Estudio de CertiSur sobre Internet y la Inteligencia Artificial en Argentina
We present the highlights of our recent study conducted in collaboration with D'Alessio on Internet usage and perception of Artificial Intelligence in Argentina. This study has shed light on various key aspects that are shaping our digital present and outlining the future of technology in our society. Several important points stand out:1. The Evolution of Internet and Mobile Device Usage: We have observed a significant change in how the Argentine population uses the Internet through their mobile devices. The cell phone has not only become a communication tool, but an essential gateway for entertainment, financial management, and access to crucial information.2. Challenges in Digital Security: As more people connect online, challenges in digital security also increase. Surprisingly, one-third of survey respondents admitted to having experienced some type of hacking. Although most claim to be familiar with online security tools, there is a notable gap between perception and effective implementation of these measures.3. Perceptions about Artificial Intelligence (AI): AI has captured the imagination and concerns of our survey respondents. It is widely perceived as a driving force for the future, capable of offering significant benefits such as saving time and effort in various areas of daily and work life. However, there are also concerns about aspects such as privacy, job loss, and the reliability of automated decisions.4. Practical Use of AI: Our study revealed that most people have interacted with AI-based applications, especially through their mobile phones, to perform tasks such as Internet searches, content recommendations, and GPS navigation. Despite their prevalence, specific knowledge about how AI works remains limited among users.5. Regulation and Responsibility in AI Development: One of the most notable findings was the divided opinion on who should set limits and regulations in the development and application of AI. While some support the intervention of international regulatory bodies, others prefer that responsibility fall on individuals to define ethical and practical limits. In summary, the study reflects an increasingly digitally integrated Argentine society, with mixed perceptions toward emerging technology like AI, which offers significant opportunities but also challenges and concerns that must be addressed for balanced and safe development. At CertiSur, we are committed to continuing to explore these dynamics and working to ensure safe, ethical, and responsible use of emerging technology.
