Reducción en la vigencia de certificados Code Signing a partir de febrero de 2026

As a partner of DigiCert , we inform you of a significant change that will impact the validity period of certificates for Public-Trusted Code Signing.

Starting from February 24, 2026, at 18:00 UTC , DigiCert-issued Code Signing certificates will have a maximum validity of 459 days , replacing the current period of up to 39 months.

This change responds to a industry-level requirement , established by the new Baseline Requirements of the CA/Browser Forum , with the objective of strengthen security , reduce the impact in the event of a compromised key and allow more agile cryptographic updates as threats and standards evolve.

The new policy applies to Code Signing certificates used with:

  • Hardware tokens

  • Hardware security modules (HSM)

  • DigiCert® KeyLocker

  • Profiles of DigiCert® Software Trust Manager configured for Public Trust Code Signing and EV Code Signing

How does this change impact you?

  • Until February 24, 2026 , it will be possible to request Code Signing certificates with a validity period greater than 459 days.

  • Issued certificates starting from that date will have a maximum validity of 459 days , even if the original request asked for a longer period.

  • Pending requests issued from that date will automatically adjust to the new validity period.

  • Already issued certificates will not be affected and will maintain their original expiration date.

  • In case of reissuance as of February 24, 2026, validity will also be limited to 459 days, even if the original certificate was issued for a longer period.

While a shorter validity period may require adjustments in certificate management, it also contributes to reduce risks and improve the resilience of digital environments.

From CertiSur we recommend that organizations get ahead of this change , review their certificate management processes and advance in strategies for automation that facilitate future renewals.
